Opened in 2005, the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe is located in the heart of Berlin close to Brandenburg Gate. 2711 concrete slabs of different heights are standing on a slight slope and the uneven concrete floor brings a sense of uneasiness turning the memorial into a place of contemplation and remembrance. An underground information centre with rooms of Dimension, Families, Names, and several others features photographs, diaries, farewell letters, and historical film footage. The outside area is open day and night.
